Details
Compact Graphite Iron (CGI) cylinder heads are manufactured with a distinct molecular structure from traditional gray iron cylinder heads. CGI exhibits significant advantages in high-heat and high-stress applications due to its 75% increased strength and enhanced thermal conductivity compared to standard gray iron heads. These are not the same heads you see advertised everywhere else, They are much better.

They are fire ringed and it sits just outside of normal head gasket crush ring helping prevent gasket failure.

Inconel valves are significantly stronger and can withstand temperatures of up to 2600 degrees. Fire rings are positioned just outside the standard head gasket crush ring to prevent gasket failure.

The Cummins single cam Stage 3 Cylinder Head is a high-performance Compact Graphite Iron aftermarket engine component specifically designed for Cummins engines. This cylinder head is engineered to deliver superior performance, durability, and reliability compared to the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) cylinder head. This is the same head we run on our race engines.

A CGI (Compacted Graphite Iron) cylinder head is often considered superior to a regular cast iron cylinder head due to its enhanced strength, thermal properties, and overall performance benefits. Here’s why:

1. Strength-to-Weight Ratio

  • CGI is about 75% stronger than conventional gray cast iron.
  • It is also lighter, reducing overall engine weight while maintaining durability.

2. Higher Thermal Conductivity

  • CGI has better heat dissipation, which helps in reducing hot spots and preventing engine overheating.
  • Improved cooling allows for higher performance tuning without risking damage.

3. Greater Durability & Fatigue Resistance

  • Regular cast iron is brittle, making it more prone to cracking under stress.
  • CGI offers higher resistance to wear and fatigue, making it ideal for high-performance or heavy-duty engines.

4. Better Machinability & Design Flexibility

  • Despite being stronger, CGI can be machined more precisely than traditional cast iron.
  • This allows for complex, high-efficiency designs, improving airflow and combustion performance.

5. Fuel Efficiency & Performance Benefits

  • The reduced weight and better heat management lead to better fuel economy.
  • CGI heads allow for higher compression ratios and more efficient combustion, which boosts horsepower and torque.

6. Emission Reduction

  • With improved combustion efficiency, CGI heads contribute to lower emissions by burning fuel more completely.

7. Application in Modern Engines

  • Many modern diesel and high-performance gasoline engines use CGI cylinder heads to handle higher pressures and temperatures without increasing engine weight.

In short, CGI cylinder heads offer the best of both worlds: the durability of cast iron with the lightweight and performance benefits of aluminum, making them a superior choice for high-performance and heavy-duty engines.
